The Highland Youth Garden began in February 2009 as two recreation centers closed in the Hilltop community.  Caring individuals began working with Highland Elementary School, Hilltop Prime Time, and the J. Ashburn, Jr. Youth Center to plan positive activities for the youth and the idea of a garden program emerged. In the years that followed, and with the commitment of many volunteers of all ages, the Highland Youth Garden grew to become a .40 acre community garden focused on children.
  • Volunteer activities may include: planting seeds/seedlings, watering, weeding and additional gardening tasks.
  • Please dress for the weather and in clothing/shoes you won't mind getting dirty. We will provide all tools and gloves.
  • Please bring a bottle of water. All other supplies will be provided.
  • Parking is located on S. Highland (which is a one-way street). We recommend heading south onto Wheatland Ave. (also a one-way), and then turning left onto Floral Ave. Volunteers can park in the Highland Youth Garden lot on Floral Ave. or on S. Highland Avenue.
