Community Shelter Board, in partnership with the YMCA, opened a new shelter to address the growing numbers of men, women and families who are experiencing homelessness. The new shelter is designed to move people more quickly into stable housing and stop repeat homelessness.
As a volunteer, you will work side-by-side with the YMCA kitchen staff to provide dinner to families. This includes: preparing the dining room, serving meals to guests, clean-up and interacting with guests.
Please note:
  • 14 is the minimum age
  • Closed-toe shoes are required
  • If this is your first time volunteering at the shelter and you would like a tour - please arrive at 5:15 and ask for Cary!
  • If you're new to this event, please print, fill-out, and bring this liability waiver with you

Van Buren Shelter could use the following donations to support the men, women, and families during their stay. If you’d like to donate any of these items, please bring them with you when you volunteer and notify your Besa Volunteer Leader.

  • Bar Soap
  • Razors
  • Men's and women's deoderant
  • Shaving cream
  • Baby wipes

We look forward to supporting families with you!
