Sorting at Goodwill

I appreciated learning about Goodwill more during this event. The woman that worked at the store let us know they do not throw anything out that is donated because you never know what some people think of as trash can be another one's treasure. All of the clothes we were helping move out of the store, were going on to the Goodwill outlet instead of to landfills.

Great place to work

As an employee of Goodwill Columbus, this is a great place to work. The staff is extremely passionate about helping to empower people with developmental disabilities and other barriers. It's a really encouraging place to be a part of.

Goodwill Columbus is a nonprofit organization that transforms the lives of individuals with disabilities and other barriers through pathways to independence and the power of work. Goodwill’s diverse, mission-driven programming includes specialized rehabilitation programs, career services, and commercial operations.

 

Join Besa and Goodwill Columbus to support individuals with disabilities through a Goodwill retail store. Tasks will include, sorting donations and clothing, pricing items and restocking merchandise. Through volunteering in the store, you'll help Goodwill divert an average of 8.3 million pounds of post-consumer items from landfills annually.

 

  • 16 is the minimum age required and all minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • A staff member from Goodwill Columbus will provide orientation and training.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
  • Parking is available in the surface lot.

  • New volunteers must complete a waiver, which will be provided prior to the event. 
  • This event is ADA accessible. 
  • Court-appointed volunteering: At this time, we can not accept court-appointed requests.

Goodwill Columbus is one of the largest charities in Central Ohio tackling workforce development, particularly for people with disabilities. 

The Young Adult Services program provides unique and varied opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to become involved in the community. Through this rewarding program, participants gain self-respect, self-worth and the feeling that they are part of something meaningful. 

As a volunteer, your team will compete against Goodwill Columbus in a competitive game of kickball! Additional roles may include the pep squad, refereeing, and switching out with other players. This opportunity will provide participants with community engagement and an afternoon of fun through sport!
 
  • A lead volunteer from Goodwill Columbus will be on-site to provide orientation and training.
  • Parking is available on-site. 
  • If you have a KDEV t-shirt, please wear it for photographs.
  • A Besa representative will greet your team and answer any questions.

Goodwill Columbus is one of the largest charities in Central Ohio tackling workforce development, particularly for people with disabilities. The Young Adult Services program provides unique and varied opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to become involved in the community. Through this rewarding program, participants gain self-respect, self-worth and the feeling that they are part of something meaningful. 

 

As a volunteer, your team will join the Young Adult Services participants and staff on a neighborhood walk through the Olentangy Trail to explore new wildlife and nature! Additional activities will include outdoor games. This event provides important socialization for their participants and allows individuals with mobility limitations an opportunity to experience nature, and the neighborhood. 

 

Please print, fill out, and email a signed copy of this waiver to Jackie Rose (JRose@express.com) no later than Tuesday, August 6th. Your cooperation will help streamline day of logistics and ensure we start on time.

 

  • To ensure the event runs smoothly, we ask all associates to be parked and ready to volunteer by 12:00pm.
  • A lead volunteer from Goodwill Columbus will be on-site to provide orientation and training. 
  • This project provides direct-interaction with individuals who have developmental disabilities and some may require mobility assistance (i.e. pushing a wheelchair). 
  • If you have a Giving at Express t-shirt, please wear it for photographs. 
  • Parking is available in the surface lot.
  • A Besa representative will be on-site to greet your team and answer any questions.

This program provides unique and varied opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to become involved in the community. Through this rewarding program, participants gain self-respect, self-worth and the feeling that they are part of something meaningful.  

 

As a volunteer, your team will work directly with participants to provide important socialization, which allows individuals to build interpersonal relationships. Volunteer activities may include bingo, sensory activities, and sound identification games.

Goodwill’s diverse, mission-driven programming includes specialized rehabilitation programs, career services, and commercial operations.

 

Join Besa and Goodwill Columbus as we cheer on this year’s Columbus Marathon racers! As a volunteer, we'll help collect apparel discarded by runners along the race course. The gathered clothing will be sold with proceeds benefiting Goodwill programs that help people with disabilities and individuals overcoming other barriers. Volunteers will receive lunch and a coupon for a free Chipotle burrito to use at a later date. 

 

In addition to registering through Besa, all volunteers must sign-up through the Columbus Marathon volunteer portal. The deadline to register is Friday, October 11. Click here to sign-up.  

 

  • 12 is the minimum age required and all minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • A staff member from Goodwill Columbus will provide an overview.
  • Volunteers will receive a bright, reflective t-shirt to wear during the event.
  • This event will be outside and will be happening rain or shine. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers so you can respond to changing weather conditions. 
  • We encourage the use of sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.
  • Free parking will be available to volunteers. More information will be provided closer to the event.

  • Volunteers must complete a Goodwill waiver, which will be provided prior to the event. 
  • Unfortunately, this event is not ADA accessible.
