Community Shelter Board, in partnership with the YMCA, opened a shelter to address the growing numbers of men, women, and families who are experiencing homelessness. The shelter is designed to move people more quickly into stable housing and stop repeat homelessness.

As a volunteer, your team will work side-by-side with the kitchen staff to provide dinner for families. This includes: preparing the dining room, serving meals to guests, clean-up and interacting with guests of the shelter.

  • A lead volunteer from Van Buren Shelter will provide orientation and a tour.

  • Closed-toe shoes are required.

  • If you're new to this event, please print, fill-out, and bring this liability waiver with you.

  • Parking is available in the surface lot.

  • A Besa representative will be on-site to greet your team.

Van Buren Shelter could use the following donations to support the men, women, and families during their stay. If you’d like to donate any of these items, please bring them with you when you volunteer and notify your Besa Volunteer Leader.

  • Bar Soap

  • Razors

  • Men's and women's deodorant

  • Shaving cream

  • Baby wipes
