Souper Heroes is a Columbus-based nonprofit and over the last five years, they have brought the Columbus community together to share a meal of free homemade soups and freshly baked bread. And through that, they've put over 100,000 meals into the local Columbus hunger relief system.

The YWCA Family Center provides emergency shelter and critical services to stabilize homeless families in central Ohio. They are a national model, with the goal to help families find housing within 3 weeks of entering the program.

Become a soup maker with Besa! Make your favorite soup at home in a crockpot, bring it to the YWCA Family Center and serve it up with us. The soup you make is up to you, but please bring enough to feed a large family (6-8 individuals).

  • A lead volunteer from Souper Heroes will be on-site to provide orientation and training.
  • Please bring a family-sized crockpot full of soup and a ladle -- and maybe your favorite apron!
  • 15 is the minimum age to participate in food service, but younger kids (with adult supervision) can help clear tables and clean up. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Casual clothing is recommended.
  • Arrive at 5pm. Service is from 6pm-8pm.
  • Parking is available on-site. Enter using the volunteer entrance (signs will direct you), ring the bell and someone from the Volunteer and Donations team will assist you in getting signed in (use front entrance during weekends or after 6:00 pm on weekdays)
  • Court-appointed volunteering: At this time, we can not accept court-appointed requests.
