Started in 2007 as a lone community garden on a small vacant lot, Franklinton Farms has since developed into a thriving network of gardens and food production sites scattered throughout the neighborhood’s urban landscape. Growing food is the cornerstone of their efforts to improve the neighborhood. Franklinton Farms has grown and donated thousands of pounds of fresh food to local food pantries.
As a volunteer, your team will help weed and mulch garden beds, organize garden spaces, spread compost and clean-up refuse in the garden areas. All of which continues their mission of supporting Franklinton residents with fresh and healthy produce.
  • A lead volunteer from Franklinton Farms will be on-site to provide orientation and training.
  • Please wear clothing you won't mind getting dirty and dress for the weather, we will be outdoors. We recommend volunteers wear long pants and long sleeve t-shirts.
  • If you have a Giving @ Express t-shirt, please wear it for photographs.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • All the necessary tools and gloves will be provided.
  • We encourage volunteers to bring a bottle of water or whatever keeps you hydrated.
  • Depending on the weather, you may want to wear sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat.
  • Parking is available in the surface lot at 867 W Town Street.
  • A Besa representative will be on-site to greet your team and answer any questions.
