NBC4 Today and Besa are teaming all summer for Summer of Giving—highlighting amazing nonprofits in Columbus and offering curated volunteer opportunities. For our third season of Summer of Giving, we’re focusing on opportunities around racial equity and justice. Join NBC4 and Besa to get inspired, get engaged and to stand in solidarity with the Black community.

For over 100 years, Directions for Youth & Families has offered programs that provide community-based treatment and prevention services through innovative programs that are resiliency-oriented, trauma-informed, and focus on the reduction of self-defeating behaviors. Their accepting and non-judgmental approach respects each individual and the family unit, recognizing strengths in diversity, culture, values, and belief systems.

We’re inviting the community to join Besa and NBC4 to help paint and refresh their Ohio Avenue Youth Center. As a volunteer, you'll help paint spaces in the youth center that were affected by water damage from recent storms. Families and kids are welcome to volunteer. Space is limited.

Directions for Youth & Families will provide volunteers with masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and we'll also practice social distancing. If you have your own personal protection equipment, please feel free to bring it.

The health and safety of volunteers is a priority. If you are sick, over the age of 50, or have a chronic health condition, it is in your best interest to stay home. Click here for more information about COVID-19.

  • This is a kid-friendly opportunity, but all minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • This is a painting project - please wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting paint on.
  • All painting supplies are provided.
  • Off-street parking is available on S Ohio Ave, please read all the street signs carefully!
  • This event is ADA accessible.

  • Court-appointed volunteering: At this time, we can not accept court-appointed requests.
