CoverMyCommunity is a focused effort to connect with our team members and lift up our communities through local volunteering in four main pillars: Racial Equity, Covid-19 Relief, the community of Franklinton, and the Passion Pillar.

The Bronzeville Development Corporation (BDC), is a subisdiary of The Douglas Foundation International, whose mission is to eliminate "food deserts" and to improve the Health and Wellness of residents, through the support of community gardening and community engagement. Targeting families in the Bronzeville Community, a historically African American neighborhood just east of Downtown, in Columbus, Ohio, their goals include establishing a network of self-sustainable agricultural systems by using innovative technologies and environmentally friendly compost farms.

Join Besa and the Douglas Foundation to lay the ground to turn an empty lot into a new community garden. As volunteers, your team will prepare a site for a new community garden sponsored by the Douglas Foundation and the Bronzeville Development Corporation. Activities may include: weeding, installing signage, creating butterfly feeding stations, general beautification, and more. All tools are provided.

Gardening gloves will be provided and we'll also practice social distancing. No client interaction will take place during this volunteer event. Volunteers are required to bring their own mask, as Besa will not be providing any. If you have your own gloves, face mask and/or hand sanitizer please feel free to bring it/use your own.

The health and safety of volunteers is a priority. If you are sick, over the age of 50, or have a chronic health condition, it is in your best interest to stay home. Click here for more information about COVID-19.

  • A lead volunteer from the Douglas Foundation will be on-site to provide orientation and training.
  • Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes that can get dirty. If you have a CoverMyMeds t-shirt, please wear it for photographs.
  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring sunscreen and a bottle of water since you will be outdoors.
  • Parking Info: parking is available on-site.
  • This event is ADA accessible.
