Founded in 2008, Local Matters began to combat a system that makes it difficult for communities in need to have consistent access to healthy, affordable foods. Local Matters believes that food education, access, and advocacy are fundamental components of healthy communities and that without them, communities do not thrive. From cooking and gardening classes to advocacy in schools and policy, Local Matters works to create systemic, food-related change across diverse populations.

Join Besa and Local Matters to prepare the Godman Guild Learning Garden for autumn. This garden acts as a fresh produce food access point to the surrounding neighborhood that faces high levels of food insecurity. As a volunteer, you'll help with a variety of tasks, such as: weeding, mulching, laying hay, and more.

Local Matters will provide gloves, face masks and we'll also practice social distancing. All tools will be sanitized. No client interaction will take place during this volunteer event. If you have your own gloves, face mask and/or hand sanitizer please feel free to bring it/use your own.

The health and safety of volunteers is a priority. If you are sick, over the age of 50, or have a chronic health condition, it is in your best interest to stay home. Click here for more information about COVID-19.
